AL-KO Electronic Stability Control (ESC) wins Mobility Engineering Excellence Award

The AL-KO engineering team has secured a gold award at the 2015 Mobility Engineering Excellence Awards.

The Society of Automotive Engineers Australasia (SAE-A) Mobility Engineering Excellence Awards are the industry’s premiere event recognising outstanding contributions to advancing technologies in the transport mobility field.

AL-KO was formally recognised in the ‘professional’ category for the impact of AL-KO Electronic Stability Control (ESC) on caravan safety and stability.

“This award further cements AL-KO’s position as market leader in caravan and trailer technology, and is testament to the work that the whole team have put into developing and perfecting the ESC product” said Peter Mannfolk, AL-KO Managing Director Elect.

A world first technology developed in Australia, AL-KO ESC is a vital safety feature designed to provide the best possible response in an emergency avoidance manoeuvre when towing by automatically intervening to significantly wipe off speed and stopping distance and maintain control – in a similar way to ESC in cars.

AL-KO ESC has been a revolutionary product for the Australian caravan industry with close to 50 percent of new caravans now fitting the technology and a national network of 300 Certified Installers retrofitting the product to older caravans.

After accepting the award, AL-KO Technical and Manufacturing Manager Rob Funder said “There has been a huge amount of engineering and development work involved in bringing the AL-KO ESC to market successfully, and it is great to be recognised by our peers for our innovation and the impact that the technology has had in helping reduce accidents and save lives.”

AL-KO has a long history of innovation and has recently invested in a multi-million dollar Recreational Vehicle Technology Centre in Dandenong South, Victoria – leading to a number of new caravan and trailer technologies and creating jobs and exports.

AL-KO was joined on the night by other high profile award winners from the mobility field including Ford, Bombardier and RMIT University.
